Cast #2

Today Evan had a follow-up exam and x-rays.  Doc said everything looked fine; obviously bone still broken and displaced but didn't see anything that would be any cause for concern.  He got a new cast and this time opted for an orange one.  We'll go back in another 3 weeks for a check-up and hopefully will be done with the cast.  As a bonus I asked for his x-rays so he will have a pretty cool show-n-tell to bring in for the letter X next month!

During the appointment Evan was a star patient.  He only complained once because it hurt when they were bending his foot.  He was even giggling while they were "sawing" off his old cast.

Overall he has been doing pretty well not being on the move like he usually is.  He has been keeping busying coloring, doing games and sports on the Wii, watching movies, playing with play dough and moon sand, and doing other crafts.  Next week I am bringing out the new iPad for some added entertainment.  He also has had visits from Grandma and Grandpa Lipke plus Aunt Patty and the Gerber crew.  While Aunt Patty was here he was able to get out and had a fun day at the zoo.

One positive of all of this is Evan is actually going to bed at an appropriate hour for a 4-year-old.  Before, we were lucky if we could get him down by 10PM.  Now that he is home with me he isn't napping during the day and he has been in bed and sleeping by 9PM the last three nights.  Once he goes back to school we'll have his teachers continue the no-nap routine.  We had already decreased it to only 1 hour a day but clearly he is ready to go completely without now.  One more sign that my little boy is growing up!
